SENSORS AND THE INDUSTRIAL INTERNET OF THINGS

ReadyDAQ being the first of its kind LabVIEW environment based software offers customizability and flexibility to operate devices and carry out functions. It offers numerous solutions to produce virtual instrumentation to fulfill the need for conventional methods with added benefits. The software abilities for ReadyDAQ make it convenient to program the applications accordingly and get the best results possible. One of the most common examples of automated functionality includes PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controller which is an instrument used to manage industrial control applications for values of speed, temperature, pressure and other variable numbers. The PID controllers are usually paired with sensors to monitor flow and values.

With the technological advances, the digital replications for analog devices are taking place, hence impacting the control and measurement technology in every industry. With passing time and growing technology, it is a necessity to work on conventional methods and instruments and work towards their development. One of the major applications for this technology includes temperature control using PID including its design and structural developments.

How Does PID in Temperature control work?

ReadyDAQ offers the ability to set-up, manage and run these PID temperature controllers. A typical PID temperature controller is mainly used to vary the regulator continuously to alter and modify the process temperature. A simple and basic heat only PID temperature controller uses reverse output action utilizing a single controller. In this process, power application is used in case the temperature is below the set value and when it exceeds the same, the power is either cut off or decreased to maintain a certain level. A more advanced version, multiple controllers are used to add the cooling control functionality. This is more prominent in injection and extrusion applications.

Also known as the three term controller, the PID reads the sensor signals usually from a thermocouple or RTDs (Resistance thermometers) and further uses the received pulses to convert them into readable units such as Degrees C or Fahrenheit. An error is then calculated using the set point after required calculations. This error is usually acted upon by three terms i.e. Proportional constant (gain), Integral constant (Reset) and Derivative constant (Rate). These terms can be simplified to explain the whole process i.e. the P constant calculates the rise in the temperature, also known as, Gain while Reset is used once the set point is reached. The derivative is the overall rate of change in error with respect to time.

We, at ReadyDAQ understand the concept behind this working and make sure that all the presets are provided to make such processes easy and flexible. With our software, temperature control is easy. ReadyDAQ is one of the most efficient ways to add PID temperature control functionality to your product.
